We are still in the midst of winter, but at the same time spring isn’t far off. If you are like I am spring and its beautiful flowers with the return of migrating birds can’t come soon enough. However, I do consider this time of melting show a challenge for finding some great shots. They are there; it is just more of an adventure to locate them.
February is also the month of love – Valentine’s Day should give everyone many opportunities for some excellent photos. While you are at it, remember that the 4 X 6 topic of the month is red. Everyone needs a little color in their lives especially during the winter and this gives us all a chance to admire some great work done by other club members. Our program for this month sounds fantastic. We will have a DVD about the Kolb Brothers, pioneers of photography in the Grand Canyon. Pictures entered in competition night will also be shown, as will photos that have been received for critiques.
February is also a month to be thinking about what pictures you would like to enter in the Severe Weather Symposium on March 27th. Pictures are due by Wednesday, March 24th. If you have questions just email me or call me. Sizes of pictures are 8” X 10” up to 11” X 14” mounted on the foam core which is 11” X 14”. They may be matted but do not have to have a mat. See the club website for full details. Steve Traudt will be presenting at the symposium on HDR and will also have a workshop for a limited number of people the next day. If you haven’t signed up for it yet please do it soon by contacting me (cost is $99). We also are honored to have some club members presenting at the symposium. Kelly Clark will do a presentation on Lightroom and Ken Plank will present on nature photography.
We have other members who are presenting also. Helen Alexandra Johnson will have work at the Noyes Gallery which has a gallery walk on February 5th and on April 2nd she will be showing in the Burkholder Project Gallery for a month. Jennifer Konecky will be presenting photo editing techniques in Beatrice at Southeast Community College the first Monday in March. Let’s support our club members by attending the gallery walk, going to the severe weather symposium, or driving down to Beatrice to learn more about photo editing.
On February 26th and 27th there is a Photograph Nebraska Workshop in Hastings. The deadline for entry is February 5th. Hope several of you signed up to attend. There will be great speakers and many good workshops available. I plan to be there. See you at the meeting.
