As I am sitting here safe and warm in my home during the blizzard I keep thinking of all the photo opportunities I am missing. Pristine snow is always beautiful to take pictures of and I figure that by the time we get plowed out it won’t be very pristine any more. I’d take a picture of Buddy out in the snow but he is so fast on his out-and- back (yes, he can still be speedy when it is his idea) that I would have to have a very fast shutter speed which wouldn’t be too good in these low light conditions. How high of an ISO could I safely use? Maybe tomorrow I will attempt to find out.
Thanks to everyone for making the Christmas banquet so enjoyable. The room we had at the church was beautiful thanks to Deb Danielson, the food was excellent because of the hard work of Darrell Watts, the speaker fantastic, and the companionship of all the others there was priceless. If you missed it, Sam Swartz had a very informative presentation on preparing for nature shooting trips. I wish I was only half as prepared as Sam is even though he did admit that sometimes “Murphy” still rules. I received a very nice note from Deb Danielson and she wanted me to pass it on to all of you. Deb finally received (it had been sitting where she couldn’t get to it) a get well card from all of us. She said that it could not have come at a better time. She said that after 6 weeks of being mostly down she was starting to lose her sense of humor and the card returned the smile to her face. She does miss all of us and hopes to see us again at the January or February meeting. Her goal is to walk into the meeting. We all wish her well.
Yes, we have been busy with holiday activities or with the blizzard but now we must get back to thinking about competition night. It is coming soon. January’s competition night is Thursday, January 7th. Be sure to get all those great shots to Steve by the deadline so we can enjoy them that evening. I know you have taken pictures that are very worthy; please share them with all of us.
Our meeting in January should be very interesting. We get to judge the photos sent to us from England. It will give us some practice on knowing what to look for in a great shot and give us a peek into the lives of the British peoples. Also, our 4 X 6 topic for January is FUN. I am planning to see lots of those pictures at the meeting. You can bring more than one to share with us if you wish.
A couple of dates to keep in mind: Photograph Nebraska in Hastings on February 26th and 27th, 2010. Go to www.Photograph Nebraska for more information. Last Saturday in March, 2010, is the Severe Weather Symposium. State Fair rules will be used for picture sizes and mats. Please consider entering the contest and attending the workshop with Steve Traudt.
See you at the next meeting. ----Linda Graham, President |
