Ahh, ‘tis the holiday season again. Can you smell the turkey roasting and the scent of pumpkin and pecan as pies are set out to cool? What a busy time it is for all of us! Capture those memories with your camera. Time passes so quickly; capture it and relive the best times over and over. Our December Holiday Banquet will soon be here. The date is Tuesday, December 15th, at 6:30 PM.
I am sorry for the confusion that many of you have endured. The location is Trinity United Methodist Church, 1345 South 16th Street, not St. Paul Methodist Church downtown. Cost is $12 per person and money may be mailed to Karen Harris by the 13th but Darrell Watts would like to have email by the 10th on numbers attending. He is in charge of our caterer and definitely wants plenty of food there for everyone. We are honored to have Sam Swartz, a multiple award winner at State Fair give a presentation on “Wildlife and Nature Shooting and How to Plan for a Nature Trip.” Come and join us for great food, great companionship, and an informative speaker. Our November meeting turned out to be excellent and I have received much positive feedback on our evening. We began by not having either of the planned presentations materialize (last day panic) and ended up with a night of great photos and critiques. Thanks to all members who volunteered to have their photos critiqued. I felt like I learned a lot and hope others did also. We will have the British photos to judge in January so now that we have had practice with some of our own photos we can hopefully do some great judging to pick out their best shots.
I have set up the 4 X 6 topic for January. We will not have one in December, as that is already a busy month. But if you want to plan ahead, especially with all the great things going on in December, the topic will be FUN. Thanks to all who contributed some great creative pictures for our “orange” November.
Boo at the Zoo was a great success thanks to all who helped. We earned some money to aid in purchasing new supplies for our Wednesday evenings at the zoo next summer and had a great time. Also, thanks to those who helped put together our display for the Orchid Show and congratulations to Ken Plank for his winning entries in their contest.
Now we are looking forward to the Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium, March 27th, Hardin Hall, in Lincoln. We will have a contest like we have had the past two years with slightly changed rules for picture sizes and mats. This year we will be having some great presentations and a workshop to accompany the symposium. Ken Plank (nature photography) and Kelly Clark (Lightroom) will each give presentations and Steve Traudt will present HDR at two 45 minute sessions on Saturday. Steve is also giving a workshop on HDR on Sunday for 10-12 people, so if you are interested contact me to reserve your spot.
February 26th and 27th, 2010, there will be a photography symposium in Hastings. For more information go to www.PhotographNebraska.com. There will be some fantastic opportunities and well-known speakers that weekend. Hope to see everyone at the banquet.
