Another month has already breezed by. October seemed to disappear right before my eyes. Maybe that was because it wasn’t a normal October. Because of the cooler temperatures and abundant precipitation, I didn’t get out as much as I normally would to enjoy the autumn colors. Now when I go out I notice that many of the beautiful leaves are on the ground and not decorating the trees they have adorned all year. It makes the task of locating possibilities for pictures even more fun; the pictures aren’t quite as visible but with a bit of work there are still many out there just waiting to be discovered.
October was a busy month for Lincoln Camera Club members. My personal thanks are given to those who helped with various events. Boo at the Zoo was a lot of fun and yes, I did wear costumes all the nights I worked and frightened my grandson in the process. Those helping me were Aimee Poor, Susan Ellis, Darlene Duvall, Karen Harris, Steve Hike, Yvonne Nelson, Jim Atkins, and Patricia Saldana. We had a great time and stayed inside and dry even when it was pouring rain. The children and their costumes were adorable and although we didn’t take quite as many pictures as we had hoped those that did get photos taken thanked us and one family told us that they were glad we were there since they counted on getting their annual zoo photo taken and missed it last year. This afternoon I had a great phone call from Doug at the zoo. We will be getting a check for over $170 for our fun week. Some may not have known but we also had a table set up in the University City Campus Union to help with the “Study Abroad Bazaar” on October 31st. Thanks to Jim Atkins, Donna Gustafson, and Darrell Watts for being our representatives. They answered questions from students who are preparing for a few weeks to a semester studying and traveling in other countries. They did such a fantastic job that they were asked to help with the next one in March and said they would be there.
In November we have the Orchid Society event. Yvonne Nelson has graciously taken charge of setting up our display and has asked for pictures to put on our display board. If you would like to help her by giving her a picture, helping to set up the display, or being present during the event please contact Yvonne. The dates are November 14-15, 2009 at Westfield, Gateway, # 5. Saturday from 7 – 8 PM is a special time for photographers to shoot pictures of the beautiful exotic orchids.
Reminder: Please get your state fair photos on a CD and bring them to me at this meeting, as I will be taking them down to the State Historical Society soon. If you wish, use shots from other years as well as our final year but label them so that they know what year they were taken.
Do you have your shots taken for the November 4X6 showing yet? The topic is “orange”. I can think of many different things that could be used for this topic; see what you can think of and bring your shot to the meeting to share with all of us. Remember, you can have your shots critiqued if you wish but that is not something that is done unless requested.
Thanks to all who attended our last meeting. I am always pleased to have such a good turn-out of both members and guests. Ken gave a great presentation. For November Clark Springman is putting together our annual exchange of photos with England. Come and see what they see through their viewfinders and help us vote on their best. Our best has been sent to England for them to judge. It is a great time to compare our “visions of the world around us”. Also, Lincoln Community Foundation will be there to fill us in on photos they would like for their annual report. Sounds like a busy, fun-filled evening.
Today I got email from the Adams Co. Convention and Visitors Bureau concerning an upcoming opportunity. There will be a photography workshop in Hastings, NE at Lochland Country Club on February 26th and 27th, 2010 with additional opportunities on Sunday the 28th. Keynote speakers for the event will be Joel Sartore, Michael Forsberg, J Michael McBride, and Randy Hampton. If you are interested the website is Photograph Nebraska.
If you haven’t been down to Morrill Hall on the university campus yet, the results are out from their photo contest. They received over 500 entries which will be displayed throughout the museum until March. Go down and see all the great photography and enjoy the museum. If you just wish to check out the results the website is Museum Photocontest.
The National Parks photo contest is still running through December 31st. Go to Share the Experience for more information. See you at the meeting on the 17th– 7:20PM |
