I can’t believe another month has already slipped away. It has been hard to tell because so many days had cooler temperatures. Now I am just waiting for the leaves to begin turning their beautiful colors. However, at the moment I am enjoying the last year of the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln to the fullest. If you didn’t come out to enjoy it you really missed a great time. Congratulations to all our camera club members for their great showing at the Nebraska State Fair.
Beautiful ribbons hung from many member photos. One thing many of you probably didn’t know is that Bev Emswiler also placed in the SPAM contest. I need to congratulate those who did well in the summer photo contest. Glen Emswiler took first and third (candid shots of children and countryside) and Bev Emswiler took second place (plant life). Sounds like a winning duo. Great work was also done by Brad Moser (any downtown area), Bob Hilsabeck (bicycles and screws, nuts, and bolts), Bev Emswiler (stormy weather), Karen Harris (shoes and feathered animals), and Jennifer Konecky (stairs). Hope you are getting your tripod pictures ready to show off at the September meeting. Remember, you can have them critiqued or not. That is your choice. Many of you just wish to show your ingenuity and share it with us.
Deb has a great September program planned. It is the long awaited program on “Lightroom”. Hope you can all attend and find out more about one of the newer programs available for use by photographers.
Don’t forget our N4C competitions. I realize everyone has been extremely busy lately but it isn’t that difficult to get a picture or two ready to send to Steve Hike for the next competition night. See the website for instructions. I believe Steve is running it on other than the first Thursday this month so you may still be able to get one or two sent to him.
Clark Springman has set up a great field trip for the camera club members. On September 20th we will be going to Wildlife Safari and riding the tram around the area so that we can take pictures of the wildlife. See Clark to reserve a spot and pay the fees.
Thanks to Jim Atkins for the great job he did with the cameras for Wild Wednesdays at the Zoo. It was a fantastic success this year. One young man even brought us a compilation of photos he had taken at home of robins being born and growing up. Others asked if we would be back next summer and one parent asked if we would ever conduct camera classes for young people. That is something we need to put some thought into.
Finally, I hope you got lots of great photos out at the Nebraska State Fair. If you got some good ones consider putting them on a well-labeled CD and bring it to the September meeting so that I can get all CDs down to the State Historical Society for their archives. One young man asked Thursday at the Largest Classroom why I was taking their pictures. My answer was that I would like to give them a copy to remember the last Lincoln State Fair and also to give to the historical society. He said he wasn’t too sure he wanted people in 100 years to know what he looked like that day. However, he decided it was fine for me to take a picture of his grinning face. With that I will quit and see you at the September meeting. Linda |
