Have we had summer yet? The warmer temperatures seem to have evaded us. However, it makes it quite nice for those working at the Children’s Zoo. Our cameras-for-loan project at the zoo has been a big success and I have enjoyed being a part of it. A very few weeks from now we will be done for this year. That doesn’t seem possible. Thanks to all who have joined us on Wednesday evenings and a huge thank you to Jim Atkins for his dedication to this project.
Ted Kirk, our July speaker from the Lincoln Journal Star, was very helpful and informative. I learned many things from his critiques and I hope others picked up a few tidbits of information also. After that evening I decided two things: 1. I need at least one more piece of equipment and 2. I am really a “Not Ready for Primetime Photographer”. The destination of being great may be distant or unattainable, but the learning journey is a lot of fun. My special thank you to all who contributed photos for the Lincoln Community Foundation. A group of us previewed them and will be very proud to hand the great photos to the Foundation next week. Hopefully by this time next year we will have even more that we can share with them.
Are you ready for State Fair? The month of August always seems to creep up on me and then I have a mad scramble to pick out the pictures I like and get the entries in before the deadline. Of course then comes the printing and mounting (I would gladly give the mounting job to anyone who could do it better than I do). I’ve moaned and groaned, pulled out some hair, and have stated that I would never do it again. Yet, the next year I seem to be answering the challenge to share my best with all of Nebraska again. How about you?
While you are at the State Fair this year enjoying its last time in Lincoln get as many photographs as possible. I thought Ted Kirk had a great idea when he said we should record this year and then take CDs to the Historical Society for future use. If you bring them to the September meeting I will make sure that they get to the Historical Society.
On that note, do you have your pictures taken for the categories Glen set out for August judging? I felt there were some great opportunities for creative photography. I am looking forward to seeing the photos. Donna Gustafson is also giving as a program at the August meeting, so it one not to miss.
On a lighter note, I guess it is not enough that I am a NRFPT Photographer. I judged the Saunders County 4-H dog show on July 27th. As I was preparing the ring for the morning a darling young girl popped out of the audience and asked me how old I was. I told her I was a Grandma, thinking that would satisfy her. However, her next comment made me smile the rest of the day. She said, “You sure are a short Grandma.” Thus, I started my judging assignment for the day.
See you all at the August meeting for our summer judging, a great program by Donna, and our first “topic of the month” so that we will have pictures to display in September and critique for those who desire that.
