Mow, water, weed, enjoy and then repeat the cycle. Summer is now officially here. We have had drenching rains, heat, humidity, and insects. Vacations, hometown celebrations, reunions, county fairs, and more are everywhere one turns. Flowers are in full bloom, children are in the parks and pools, and animals are resting in the shade.
Summer is a great time to go out and get pictures. Grab your camera, mosquito repellant, water bottle, sun block and go out and shoot. A few of us captured photos of Field Day with the Lincoln Amateur Radio. Bring these to the July meeting and show them off. Ask Jim Atkins how high in the air he got for some of his pictures. I was privileged to be one of the judges in Weeping Water last Friday evening along with Donna Gustafson and Steve Hike. It was a great evening for a jaunt down there and some of the photos we judged were well worth the trip. Hopefully we will get to see them again at the Nebraska State Fair.
Have you joined us on Wednesday evenings at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo yet? Lots of fun awaits if you haven’t been there yet. We have all our cameras checked out very early in the evening and the young people and their parents are very excited to get the CD to take home. A special thanks to Bob Hilsabeck for loaning us the external CD burner, as this has helped us be more efficient when children bring the cameras back and are waiting for the CD.
Don’t forget the Lincoln Community Foundation pictures. I bet many of you already have photos in your archives that would be exactly what they want. Just bring your pictures - 8 x 10” or larger preferred, 300 dpi - on a well-labeled CD with any needed model releases to the July meeting so we can get them to the Foundation by their deadline. Can’t come to the meeting? Bring them to Yvonne Nelson or myself and we will take care of them.
Ah, yes, the July program. This program will give you a great opportunity to see our photos critiqued by a Lincoln Journal Star photographer. Those of us who have taken pictures for them will be bringing in some of our photos and they will look at them, hopefully telling us what we can do to become better and what we already do correctly. Several members have had the opportunity to work with the Journal Star so it should be a very informative evening and will give those who haven’t done this yet a chance to see what others have done.
As you are out taking pictures do not forget the camera club photo contest. There are several topics. Use your imagination and get your best shots. The categories are on the club website and the photos will be judged at the August meeting. See you at the meeting. Linda |
