Darrell's Message for June |
It is both an honor and a challenge to help move LCC forward during the 2008-2009 “club year”. It’s not easy to follow in the footsteps of our recent presidents so I won’t try to do so. Rather, I’ve ask them to get behind and give a push or a swift kick as the occasion dictates. Undoubtedly, both will be needed as the year moves along.
LCC has a number of opportunities and challenges over the coming months. Our upcoming 75th anniversary display in the lobby
of the downtown Wells Fargo Bank will be a great opportunity to showcase the wealth of photographic talent in our club. The Wednesday evening displays throughout the summer at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo will provide a good environment for recruiting new members. Experience has shown that there are always people coming by who are interested in photography and who don’t know that LCC exists. Of equal importance, our display photos attract the attention of kids who are just beginning to develop an interest in photography. We’ll be talking about other interesting opportunities for our members as the year moves along.
The wide range of talents and interests among our members poses a continuing challenge to provide speakers and meaningful programming so that our meetings are of interest to the experienced photographers in the club, to the neophytes and those of us somewhere in between. Fortunately there are two things that almost all of our members hold in common: a strong interest in photography and a desire to learn more and enhance their skills. Over the coming months we will do our best to continue making LCC a welcoming environment for all of our members and as well as the guests at the monthly meetings. We would truly welcome your suggestions for ways to make this happen.
This is the first installment of a twelve part series that is supposed to appear under the byline of yours truly over the next year. The truth is that sometime in the winter of 2009 you will find a clearer, more informative column by a yet-to-be-named guest writer. It’s just too hard to resist the clarion call of a warmer climate that offers more enticing photo possibilities than the drifts covering the front lawn or the icy sidewalk that must be chipped free of its frozen burden. |
