Yvonne's Message for January
Greetings, LCC Members!

As the final hours of 2007 wend their way into history, a bit of retrospect may be in order:
We have had another interesting year for the Lincoln Camera Club.  The most recent, our Holiday Dinner, very well attended, with an interesting time of friendship and congeniality, enhanced by a very interesting program by Jeff Beiermann, from the Omaha World Herald.

Leland Osten and his committee provided us with an excellent workshop conducted by Leroy Traudt in March.  Enthusiasm generated by this workshop has provided the impetus for planning another one this year.

We’ve had a year of awards and recognition.  To mention a few:

Jim Atkins was awarded the Gold Medal Award in the N4C News-letter competition, First Place in the entire competition of over thirty entries from eleven states!
Leland Osten won Best of Show in our photo exchange with RBCC in England.
Karen Harris was awarded first place with her orchid photo in the Lincoln Orchid Society competition.
Glen Emswiler won the LCC Summer 4x6 competition.
Bev Emswiler‘s photo was entered as the December photo in the 2008 KFOR Calendar.
Many of our members were happy winners in the State Fair.  Many thanks to LCC members who made the State Fair work!

We have had an interesting variety of programs, from educational sessions to travelogues from Africa, (thanks to Claudius Shoniwa and Darrell Watts), to photo judging and just plain “how-to” meetings.  It’s been a lot of fun with the Summer  4x6 Photo Contest…  photos that really reflect the potential in our club!  Watch for another contest coming this next year.

We enjoyed our annual contact with the Lincoln Children’s Zoo…  with Wild Wednesdays, and the LCC Day at the Zoo…  Fun Times!    Our LCC display table, with the new banner, was employed at the Zoo, at the Lincoln Orchid Society Show in November, and the Spring Creek Prairie Open House in December, attracting the attention of several photographers and potential new members.

This year has afforded us new equipment, a projector and laptop that makes our judging easier, as well as our program presentations much more enjoyable.  New equipment, of course, is enhanced by able operators, for which we thank Darrell Watts and his cohorts for their expertise in this area.  The new equipment was especially appreciated in the judging of the RBCC photos at the  November meeting of LCC.  A very enjoyable and entertaining evening was spent judging their photos!

Some members have enjoyed Camera Club connections with AmeriCruise,  Experimental Aircraft Assn., with their  Ford Tri-Motor Airplane and other organizations.

Enough of “Where we’ve been”!  On to “Where we’re going!”

Leland Osten has been working diligently on this year’s workshop by Jeff Morgan, a professional photographer of Minneapolis.  This workshop is slated for February 29th and March 1st.  Please see this announcement elsewhere in The Bulletin. Mark your calendar!

Remember that we are continuing the membership contest this year!  The person sponsoring the most new members will receive a free membership for the coming year!  Go-getter Linda Graham was the winner last year…  let’s give her a run for the money!  Remember!  Your prospective member must show you as the referring club member on the membership application.  The winner will be announced at the May Salon.

Plans are in process for possibly working with National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games and with UNL’s Department of Nebraska Weather and Climate.  Information about these options will be provided at our January LCC meeting.

Jim Budka will provide the program for our January General Meeting, on Tuesday, January 15th.  We will enjoy his sharing his expertise with us.  Linda Graham has many more great programs planned for us this year!

Happy New Year to All!

Yvonne Nelson
