Yvonne's Message for October
Dear Members:

As I reflect on the seemingly short time I have been so involved in the workings of our club, I get the desire for more things to happen and for them to happen more quickly.  However, thanks to so many industrious members working on so many projects, things do seem to happen as we need them.

When this Bulletin “hits the stands”, I am anticipating an influx of responses from the questionnaire we have issued, advising us of the direction we need to follow in planning our future programs and workshops.  We will be making these decisions at the Board Meeting on the 9th of October.  If you have any suggestions or desires along this line, Now Is The Time!

As you know, Luis Peon Casanova has offered to conduct workshops of several diverse subjects for our membership.  We are waiting to hear from you, which of these subjects you are most interested in pursuing.  We will have an opportunity to get another sampling of what he has to offer, at the next regular meeting on October 16th when he plans to present an informative program on “Learning How to Judge Photography”.  Judging is really a fun and educational experience!   Luis has quite a varied supply of ideas and expertise and is willing to share them with all of us.

I was sorry to see that so many of you could not join the group who journeyed to the Nebraska City AppleJack Festival on Sunday, September 16th!  After leaving Lincoln about 9:30, and fortunately finding parking near The Lied Center, we walked the trails, finding Mother Nature as friendly and beautiful as always!  Photo Ops abounded!  We spent a full day there, enjoying delicious apple pies, apple cider, the serenity of the orchards, then returning to Lincoln about 5:00, all THREE MEMBERS and TWO GUESTS, tired and well-rewarded for the day!

You will probably find us gathered again on Sunday, September 30th at the Sunken Gardens, enjoying the outdoor peace and beauty and trying to record it in photos, enjoying a ‘cuppa’ coffee afterwards!  Join us?

Another fun evening will be happening at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday October 4th at Gere Library, when photographs entered in our competition will be judged!  Increasing numbers of photos are being entered in this contest, with more and more members receiving recognition for their great efforts.  Those receiving honors in last month’s competition are:

    Nature:        Darlene Duvall, Pioneers Park
                Dennis Gaibler, Heron
    Digital Prints:    Dennis Gaibler, Feast
                Brad Moser, Camp Creek Threshers

The winning entries will be entered in the N4C competition. We hope more members will submit entries, now that you all have all those great shots you made this summer!

The Lincoln Orchid Society will be having their Fall Orchid Show, Saturday and Sunday, November 10th and 11th at Back to the Bible, 6400 Cornhusker Highway.   They have once again invited us to participate.  They have suggested our providing a demonstration program on photographing orchids.  If you have expertise in this area, please let us know so we can make necessary arrangements.  We will be able to photograph their orchids as we did last year.

The Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, October 9th at 7:00 p.m., at my home at 915 So. 41st, Lincoln.  We have quite an extensive agenda, including several options for workshops, programs, special events and several other items.  We welcome all members to attend the Board Meetings.
