I just returned from a most interesting journey…....via Internet…. to the Nebraska City Apple Jack Festival website, www.NebraskaCity.com ! So many interesting events happening, including one of special interest to us… a Photography Contest! Seems to me the festival offers many more photo ops than we may find on any other single visit.
I also discovered that two of our own members were featured there: Luis Peon Casanova’s photo of the Timber Dining Room for one, and perhaps there were more, in the brochure; and Steve Hike was listed among the winners in the photo contest of a purple and at least five red ribbon awards in last year’s competition! Great going, guys! I just happened to print out their rules and application form for the photo contest, so if you would like a copy, feel free to ask! I understand photographs will be displayed at the Morton-James Public Library in Nebraska City from September 10, 2007, through the end of that month. People’s Choice voting is open from September 10 through AppleJack weekend (September 15-16). Visit www.NebraskaCity.com for more information about the 2007 AppleJack Festival! How timely that Gayle is arranging a photo op trip there for us! See her information elsewhere in this copy of The Bulletin!
Gayle and the Field Trip Committee are working diligently to find new and interesting tours to offer this summer and fall, and as weather permits during the rest of the year. As we announced at the July meeting, we are planning to tour Morrill Hall, at 14th & Vine on Sunday, August 12th, a cool respite for a hot summer day! Get your tripod and flash and come along to the north door at 1:30 p.m.! Find this information elsewhere in The Bulletin, too.
A little feedback from our members would help to arrange for the types of tours you prefer! If you get your ideas to us, perhaps it can be arranged, as Gayle is a “go-getter”! For starters, how about going to Spring Creek Prairie, Lincoln Journal Star, DeSoto Bend State Park, The Cranes, James Arthur Vineyard (do all grapes look alike?). With a sufficient number of participants, perhaps a day-long bus trip? Let Gayle know YOUR ideas! Contact Gayle at

While I’m requesting ideas, how about having a Photography Show of our own at a prominent local gallery or showcase? We have so many excellent photographers, why not share our expertise? Let me know your suggestions at

Lincoln Camera Club Day at the Zoo was well attended, and enjoyed in spite of ‘warm’ weather. Some members came early and stayed late, and seemed quite happy with their results. Personally, I heard some very interesting photo conversations going on! A great time to learn some new tips and ideas!
Wild Wednesdays are getting more exciting each week! With both of our really neat display boards in operation, holding some recently donated Zoo Photos, and with our newly acquired banner for the front of the table, people no longer need to guess why we are sitting there! They come looking for us, now! Leann is getting things going in a great way! Lots of “photo-socializing” going on!
Time is getting short for the 4x6 Photo Competition! Glen tells me the number of contestants is up, this year, so the judging should be fun! Mark August 21st on your calendar for our next General Meeting, and come give it your “best shot”. Remember the 7:00 p.m. entry deadline.
At the August 21st meeting, Darrell will be telling us about the new laptop he and his committee are purchasing for the Club. Now, all the entries in our competition will be displayed at their very best. Darlene is getting geared up for much more competition this year, since more of you will feel your entries will receive the great display they deserve!
Watch The Bulletin for upcoming meeting programs, Linda has some interesting plans for us! You will also be reading about workshops that are in the planning, and, like a pop quiz, may happen at any time on almost any subject!
At this time of the year, I feel I would be remiss if I did not mention the Nebraska State Fair! The deadline for entry forms is Friday, August 3rd, and entries will be accepted at the Expo Building on August 10th and 11th. If you would like the unique experience of helping at the Fair, please feel free to let me know! We are undergoing the modern-ization process of initiating a new computer system, making this a very interesting year to be involved.
Mark your calendar now for the August 21st meeting at Gere Library so you don’t miss it! A fun time is planned for all!
